I was talking to one of the guys at work that does network support and was able to get a Cisco 837 router to play with. One issue is that a serial connection it required to connect a console cable and do any work on the router. Both laptops at home have no serial port. Today I was able to borrow a USB to serial adapter and connect to the router with my work laptop which also has no serial port. The router already had a configuration and password on it. I did not have the password so I did a little research and was able to reset the password and clear the configuration. I then set an IP address and enabled telnet access to I can access the router via a regular network cable.

The step down transformer I bought and brought with us from Canada died. No drama like smoke or a big noise, it just failed to work. I opened up the unit up but could see no problems. Figured cost more to fix than replace so I found step down transformer on trademe and bought it. I got delivered today and works fine.

I had to go work at a camp office for an electrical company working at a gas or oil job on the edge of New Plymouth. I had to go through site orientation before being allowed to go the the portable office and setup some printers.

I guess because I have experience working at the port and on ships, I got the job to go repair a printer on the Geobay. I am by no means a printer repair person. I went and talked to one of the guys at work who does printer repair to get a heads up on installing a maintenance kit. It was pretty simple except I could not locate one of the rollers that came in the kit on the printer. Also found a wad of paper jammed behind on of the paper trays which was likely the cause of the paper path issues.

I know my CCNA exam is a ways off, but I wanted to make sure I would not have any trouble booking it so I had my password to the Pearson Vue site reset and checked and updated my account.
had to get the mower out of the shed today as the lawn in backyard was looking a bit shaggy. Some areas need no cutting but others were past due. It was a bit wet from the rain during the week and last night, but cut okay and did not plug up the mower at all.
It maybe the middle of winter but that is not stopping the ice cream truck from making the rounds this afternoon. The music from the truck drives me a bit batty, I wonder how the driver likes it.
Went to the new Star Trek movie at the Stratford movie theatre. Neat old building and they still do an intermission mid way through the movie.
