One person off sick at work today and call volumes are up again. On the home front, busy doing homework with Piper. Emma gave me some good tips for working with Piper doing obedience work and it started to pay off right away. Hopefully I will rememeber to use her tips in class tommorow.

I don't need a another marketing driven day on the calendar to tell me to do something special for my wife. I brought her flowers last week just cause I felt like it, and I did not get hit with inflated prices.

I found a good tutorial for learning how to use layers in GIMP. There were a few issues because I have a different version of GIMP than used in the tutorial so menu items have changed, but a little searching would find the required menu item. The image below is the image I made by following the tutorial.

I finsihed rebuilding my little test lab at work this morning and got back to playing with and learning Exchange Server 2003. Things are working so much better after rebuilding everything. Things that are in the book I am reading that would not work before now work.

Speaking of books, my book order from Chapters.ca came today. On the recreational side I got Lucifer's Hammer by Larry Niven and Jerry Purnelle. On the geek side I got Head First with CSS and XHTML by Elizibeth Freeman & Eric Freeman.

Old man winter has paid a visit and the temperature has dropped to minus 30 Celsius. I grew up in a colder part of the country so this weather does not bother me too much, but for someone like Emma who comes from New Zealand, it is bitterly cold. I like to think that dealing with the cold is as much mental as it is physical, so if you think it is damn cold you are going to feel cold no matter how well you dress for the cold.

The last time my mom was in town she left me a box full of old pictures and school stuff. Emma and I started going through it. She got a good laugh out of my letters home from boarding school asking for care packages of food.
