Journal For Week of December 26, 2005 Mon / Tue / Wed / Thu / Fri / Sat / Sun Monday December 26, 2005 If it's Monday why am I not at work? Yup! long weekend
brain has my mental clock/calender all mixed up. Mon / Tue / Wed / Thu / Fri / Sat / Sun
Tuesday December 27, 2005 The commute to work was very easy this morning. Seems like most of the city is still on vacation. All the floors at work were mostly empty, making for a very low call count on the help desk and between the phones and a few administrative jobs I can't say I did much at work today. Mon / Tue / Wed / Thu / Fri / Sat / Sun
Wednesday December 28, 2005 I have been testing my new noise canceling head phones in different places. At work they do a great job of cancelling out the noise of all the computers etc. In the car they help with road noise alot. Mon / Tue / Wed / Thu / Fri / Sat / Sun
Thursday December 29, 2005 Posting from work as it is so slow there is not much to do. I put a different ROM on my Zaurus PDA last night. I am testing the Watapon 1.6.1 ROM. I added two different media players so I can listen to some podcasts. I put the OTR player on as I know from experience that it works well. I also put the Sharp Media Player on. At first I thought it worked well with podcasts, but further testing showed that if I have to shut the Zaurus off, Sharp Media Player shuts down too and I have to start listening to a podcast from the start again. The OTR player does not have this issue which is great. It is lacking in integration with the hardware so I can't use the buttons to control OTR which is a minor pain. I used my new head phones with the Zaurus to listen to part of an IT Conversations podcast while walking to work. Even with the traffic on the street, with noise canceling turned on, I was able to listen to my program without turning the volume up very much. Mon / Tue / Wed / Thu / Fri / Sat / Sun
Friday December 30, 2005 A little more normal at work today. A few helpdesk calls to spice things up while I worked at rebuilding loaner laptops and creating a check list for rebuilding loaner and user laptops. Management turned us loose at 3 PM which was nice. Mon / Tue / Wed / Thu / Fri / Sat / Sun
Saturday December 31, 2005 A neighbour had us and a few other couples over for a get together last night. Was a fun and relaxing way to spend an evening. The average computer user is a funny creature. We had one at work this week try three times to email a 350 MB video to her husband, and then tried to use webmail to send it. The guys running our gateway Exchange box were having fits as Exchange was trying and failing to send 3 X 350 MB. Us geek types laugh and howl at this type of copmputer use, but really how is the average user to know that they are doing something wrong. Mon / Tue / Wed / Thu / Fri / Sat / Sun
Sunday January 1, 2006 Changing the calendar over to 2006 was not a big deal in the Doucette household. 2005 was not what either of us expected. Emma was diagnosed with cancer, and started treatment which will be on going till September of 2006. We have tried hard not to let this change our day to day lives, but it has in some ways. There was good stuff in 2005 though. We campaigned both our dogs sucessfully with both now being Canadain Champions in confirmation. We also took in a third dog (Pumpkin). Initially we were just to foster Pumpkin, but she turned out to be such a great addition to the household that we kept her. The dogs have been great to have. The dog shows gave us goals to make and follow through. The dogs are also great friends who entertain us, comfort us, and in general are just a pleasure to have around.
