You know how it is you can look at something but never see it, like your car keys on the counter top. Well that is what I have been experiencing with the GroupWise MTA screen on the server. The screen lists the number of  Domains, Post Offices and Gateways and if they are closed. Well even though the Post Office nlm status screen is not up and running, and the GWPOA.NLM does not show as a currently loaded module. The MTA lists a total of one Post Office and it is not closed. I believe this maybe a significant pointer to learning why GroupWise continues to work from an end user view, even though not all of the modules are running that I thought were necessary.

Not a very eventful day work wise, as work was the usual park your brain at the door type of day. On the job hunting front nothing new on the horizon other than a two day Tech Job fair in town next month, and an online Job Fair Wednesday and Thursday this week.

I am eagerly waiting for the GroupWise book I ordered from Amazon.com, as I hope it will shed some light on what is under the hood in GroupWise, as my own attempts to figure it out is going all too slowly.

Bicycled to work for the first time this year. Paced myself on the way home to make sure I wouldn't kill myself on final big climb. But that didn't work out as a buddy who is a provincially ranked cyclist caught up to me at the bottom of the hill. So instead of him having to slow down to my pace so we could talk, I matched his pace as best I could. Surprised myself on how well I rode up the hill and still was able to talk a little bit.

Registered for the online Job Fair this afternoon and went through the job postings. No local jobs that I want or had not seen before, and a few jobs in Texas which are out of my league. I'll take another look tonight when I am not as rushed.

Looks like there will be some new jobs opening up at work, with us Tier 2 people having first shot at them. No job descriptions yet just a few clues as to what they may or may not be. Likely not going to do me any good though since I am both a contractor and low man on the totem pole which are both strikes against me. But then again with many of the people I work having shown little or no willingness or ability to move on to something else, I maybe able to grab one of the new positions.

While at the Calgary airport this morning I had a look at one of the information/internet kiosks. The kiosks provided free information via touch screen on restaurants and entertainment, and also for a fee, provide email and internet access. I did not check the fee for net access, bit I did see a possible problem with the unit. The keyboard looks like it taken off a label writer at the stationary store. Small keys, which while in a QWERTY layout, the spacing and configuration is off kilter somewhat from a standard keyboard.

I don't know what to make of this. A new virus, possibly two from what I have read so far is circulating and no one around me at work has said boo about it. I did receive one very brief, obtuse message from a manager that there is "a new love letter virus", and that NAI has produced an update for it which will be implemented via login script. At least this is better than last week when we got no information till after the Love Letter virus was already running around our environment. Maybe it is just me, but I would think that those who are responsible for virus eradication would want to give those of us who have to deal with it on the front lines more information so we can know what to expect if the virus hits. They obviously must know more since they are implementing a fix. So why not at least send a hyper link to information they got from NAI. Instead they force us to use valuable time researching the latest virus outbreak ourselves.

Well I'll be...communication from the top to us in the trenches, they deemed it important enough to inform us as to which file extensions they are filtering email attachments for!
